Flexibility and Work-Life Balance

“The Aggie environment is very welcoming,” said Bernadette H., a two-time NMSU alum who recently completed her Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education online at NMSU Global Campus.

Opting for an online degree was an ideal choice for Bernadette because it allowed her to continue her teaching career while pursuing her degree. “It was easy for me to join NMSU Global Campus,” she shares. “I was able to get my degree online, which allowed me to keep working as a teacher.”

“I was able to balance being with both of my children, working, and going to school full-time.”

Studying online at NMSU Global Campus made it realistic for Bernadette to get so much done in her busy life. “I was able to balance being with both of my children, working, and going to school full-time,” she says. “It took a lot of dedication. I would go to work full-time, then in the afternoons I would spend time with my kids and do homework at night.”

Making Connections Online and In-Person

One of the most rewarding parts of doing her MA program online was the meaningful connections she made with the other students. “I felt supported by the NMSU Global Campus community,” Bernadette tells us. “Even though I was online, I got to meet students from different parts of New Mexico and other states.” She was looking forward to meeting some of these classmates in person for the first time at their graduation ceremony.

Even though her classes were online, Bernadette felt a strong sense of community. “We were always there to help each other,” she says, reflecting on the strong connections she made during her classes. “The teachers guided us via email and Zoom,” she adds, “so we were never left alone.” This supportive atmosphere was especially useful when someone had a hard time understanding course materials or assignments. There was always someone ready to offer assistance.

As an online student at NMSU Global Campus, Bernadette felt connected to the Aggie community, building relationships not only online but also with the main NMSU campus in Las Cruces. She was able to celebrate meaningful milestones like receiving her Latinx Graduation Stole from NMSU’s Chicanx Programs to wear at her graduation ceremony.
