Program Highlights and Learning Outcomes

The Master of Arts plus Licensure with Concentration in Early Childhood program includes coursework and field experiences working with young children in public school settings grades PreK – 3rd grade. Our Teacher Education Program in the NMSU College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation is nationally accredited by CAEP (caepnet.org) and approved by the New Mexico Public Education Department.

This degree program requires twelve (12) courses for a total of 42 credits of graduate coursework. That includes eleven (11) content-based 3-credit courses and one (1) field-based 9-credit course.

Our MA program concludes with a semester of student teaching, giving the teacher candidate the opportunity to put theory, knowledge and experiences into practice during a 16-week student teaching internship. The teacher candidate will be provided mentorship and guidance by a master level teacher as they lead teach for four weeks. State-mandated licensure exams are required to apply for a New Mexico teaching license.
