BIS students coordinate with their advisor to construct a well-designed interdisciplinary Program of Study in their field of interest. Each student is responsible for clearly expressing their ideas in writing, conducting systematic inquiry, handling ambiguity in the design and implementation of their studies, proactively communicating with advisors, and following through on tasks related to their Program of Study.

The Bachelor of Individualized Studies program must meet the minimum of 120 credits, with the total number determined by your academic advisor. To earn this degree, you must fulfill the NMSU General Education Core Requirements with a minimum of 35 credits, as well as a minimum of 48 upper-division credits with a grade of C- or better, including six from the Viewing a Wider World curriculum. It is also recommended you complete one or more approved minors, each requiring a minimum of 18 credits, including at least 9 upper-division credits.
