The Master of Arts in Bilingual Education program provides an in-depth exploration of the challenges facing bilingual learners, particularly in the Southwest borderlands. Graduates of this program are prepared to advocate for the rights and needs of bilingual children, families, and communities, fostering equity and social justice in educational settings.
The comprehensive curriculum covers various aspects of bilingual education, including language acquisition and instruction, culturally responsive teaching practices, and community relations. Students gain practical experience through an internship and have the option to conduct independent research on a topic in bilingual education that aligns with their interests and career goals.

The Master of Arts in Education: Bilingual Education requires 33 credits, including an internship in a bilingual educational setting. This program does not include licensure and is designed for already licensed working educators or individuals planning to work in positions that do not require a teaching license.
Graduates seeking a Bilingual Education (Spanish/English) endorsement (PreK-12) from the New Mexico State Department of Education must demonstrate their proficiency in Spanish by taking the PRUEBA examination.
