Theresa C., Class of 2023

The MA in Communication Studies offers three concentrations, each one equipping you with effective leadership skills to thrive in any organizational environment.

A concentration in Organizational Communication helps you understand how organizations function day to day through relationships, teamwork, and workplace culture. You’ll learn to analyze organizational challenges, manage workplace relationships, and apply communication strategies that improve collaboration across teams and departments.

A concentration in Leadership Communication teaches you how to manage complex issues in the workplace. You’ll receive an advanced understanding of how communication and leadership drive organizational culture, team success, and managerial effectiveness.

A concentration in Analysis and Decision Making shows you how to thoroughly analyze problems from multiple angles to reach a straightforward course of action. With this multidisciplinary concentration, you’ll learn how to factor current data and organizational challenges into your problem-solving techniques, all while staying true to your intellectual ideals.

Students who want broader preparation may combine two concentrations, and through careful planning, still be able to complete the program in the same amount of time or with only a few additional courses. Beyond your focus area, you’ll develop strong skills in communication inquiry, critical analysis, strategy evaluation, ethical practice, and communication theory that you can apply across dynamic organizational environments.

At a time when technical skills evolve quickly, and workplaces are being reshaped by automation and AI, the MA in Communication Studies program strengthens essential skills that support adaptability, advancement, and long-term career success.
