This degree program does not lead to licensure. However, it can be used to add a TESOL endorsement to your existing license from the New Mexico State Department of Education.

The master’s in TESOL is designed for preservice and in-service teachers working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) students. This program offers options to focus on either PreK-12 or international contexts, emphasizing the unique educational needs of English Language Learners (ELLs) and bilingual learners.

The curriculum covers multicultural education, literacy instruction for bilingual students, technology integration in language learning, and second language acquisition. Special attention is given to equity and social justice issues, with a particular focus on the Southwest Borderlands and Spanish-speaking populations.

Students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program must choose either the PreK-12 focus, which requires 33 credits, or the international focus, which requires 36 credits. Both focuses include a TESOL practicum component.

This program does not include licensure and is designed for already-licensed working educators who want to obtain a TESOL endorsement, or for individuals planning to work in positions that do not require a teaching license.
