In the MS in Industrial Engineering program, you’ll develop the quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills you need to evaluate engineering systems and propose improvements. Under the guidance of our distinguished, well-published faculty, you’ll explore the design, installation, resource allocation, and improvement of integrated systems, which are composed of information, equipment, energy, materials, software, information, processes, and people.
With thesis and project degree tracks available, along with various focuses in manufacturing, operations research, and engineering management, you’ll have the opportunity to individualize the program to meet your needs.

In the MEIE program, you’ll have the opportunity to choose coursework from four essential content areas: operations research, applied statistics, design and manufacturing, and engineering management. With a variety of advanced, expertly taught classes in each content area, this dynamic master’s program gives you the opportunity to tailor the degree to your interests.

Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE)
Whether you choose to write a thesis or complete a project, the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering degree consists of 30 credits of 16-week courses:
- Thesis option: 24 credits of coursework plus 6 credits of I E 599: Master’s Thesis.
- Project Option: 27 credits of coursework plus 3 credits of I E 598: Special Research Programs.
At least 50% of the coursework must be taken from the Approved IE Department Course List, but you may take up to five electives from engineering disciplines outside the department (or other areas of interest outside the college).

Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering (MEIE)
The Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering degree consists of 30 credits. At least 50% of the coursework must be taken from the Approved IE Department Course List, but you may take up to five electives from engineering disciplines outside the department (or other areas of interest outside the college).

If you’re seeking regular admission to graduate study in Industrial Engineering, you must meet departmental admission requirements in addition to those of the Graduate School, which include:
- An engineering bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited school
- Completion of a course in calculus-based probability and statistics (if your degree does not meet the necessary prerequisite)
- A statement of intent describing your professional goals
- At least a 3.0 GPA in undergraduate coursework
